The Race For Dallas County Sheriff

Fresh off of the Dallas Mayoral and Council elections, it appears that the race for Dallas County Sheriff is already on. Democratic Incumbent Lupe Valdez has her site up and running, as does Republican challenger Lowell Cannaday. Cannaday’s camp sent an e-mail today announcing their fundraising successes. I don’t think fundraising will be a problem on either side.

If you hear of any other people that are considering a run at this office (or any others in 2008), please let me know.

UPDATE: Just that fast, sources tell me that there are two others throwing themselves in the fray on the Republican side.

Charlie Richmond, a lieutenant with the Mesquite Police Department, and Catherine Smit, the chief of police in Cockrell Hill are both running. My source says that “neither one has the experience or fundraising machine of Cannaday, but they could prove to be annoyance until March.” But remember, money doesn’t always dictate elections.
